I lied there on the asphalt, motionless; and you were holding my hands tightly.

Your voice faded in the darkness which enveloped me, but I could hear a faint of it. You pleaded me not to leave you. You said that you love me and you couldn’t live without me. You sobbed, your body shivered, your voice rasp and hoarse. And yet, you still called my name over and over.

The pulse machine recorded the first beat. Threw his clipboard to the desk; he dashed to stare at the monitor. The machine recorded another beat. And the tick voice changed into a constant beep.
A wide smile plastered on his face. His colleagues congratulated him; the monitor boy reported that everything went okay; and the last thing he need to do is push the activate button.
“ Here is the time, Kamenashi-san. You’ve waited this moment for years, right ? “

Kazuya stared at the current date and his smile went wider.
It’s 4 July. Happy Birthday, Jin…

Kazuya pushed the button; and the machines hissed and beeped—the body that lied on the metal surface began to glow. Kazuya walked closer, his heart soothes when the familiar face started to show some indication of life.
The figure opened his eyes; and stared at his creator through his hazel orbs. He swift his position and stood in a fluid movement.
“ What’s your name…? “ Kazuya asked him; it was the first procedure he must do, after all. This whole project cost a lot, and he couldn’t afford it alone. He got his funds from the company, but it means that he couldn’t act that this project is his alone.
The figure responded, “ I’m AJ 407 “
I missed that voice…
God, it was amazing to be able to hear it once again…

“ Good “ One of his colleagues scribbled something in the clipboard, “ Then we may announced that this project is success “
AJ 407 smiled; the same way he used to smile, and Kazuya couldn’t help tears escaped from his eyes. His act wasn’t so weird; since everyone in the room is celebrated the success in bliss—but his tears were different.
He was happy, of course.
But it wasn’t only for the successful project; it was because he could see him alive again.
Even you are not a real living thing.
For Kazuya’s surprised, AJ 407 gently took him into his embrace and pats his back in an intimate movements. “ Don’t cry… Please don’t cry “
Kazuya’s heart melted.
He created the android based on Jin’s appearances, his behavior, his voice, his memory… Yes, he planted Jin’s memory inside AJ 407; but he didn’t program him to react so intense like this.
It felt like the real Jin is back; and he was comforted him.
The artificial radiated warmth from AJ 407 enveloped him; and for the first time after years… there was a true smile on Kazuya’s face.

Kazuya’s eyes widened in shock. His face turned pale, and AJ felt a pang in his heart when he saw it.

But this kind of things I felt towards you isn’t worked based on the program given to me…

AJ stunned to see his creator’s tears. Without realizing it, he grabbed the fragile body into his embrace once again, like he did in his first day of activation. “ Don’t cry… Please don’t cry… “
AJ didn’t know why he did that. It’s just his body moved by its own, and even his programs didn’t recognized his actions. What he did is totally unreadable order, but there was something inside him told him that he did nothing wrong… He was doing the right thing.

Why you call me using his name, Kazu…?
His creator hugged him back; and AJ’s sensing programs read Kazuya’s overwhelming emotions with a déjà vu feelings. He thought that this was happened before. But how…? He never saw this scene before… He never did this action before… He never left this area, so why he saw the images of him hugging his creator in someplace he never come…?

AJ didn’t reply his creator, since his consciousness told him that he was AJ 407 and his creator was calling another person’s name. But his creator’s eyes gazed at him with so much affections and AJ realized that Kazuya is speaking with him, “ I love you… “

AJ told himself to get used to be called with another name. He commanded his program to receive the name ‘JIN’ as his code name or a nickname; because if he didn’t do that, his programs will unable to respond everytime he was called using that name.
AJ stared at his own name, printed on his hand.

“ Yet my creator called me using another name. My creator. The one who created me. He gave me the name : AJ 407… But he always calls me using another name : Jin. Why ? “
It was soon when AJ realized that Kazuya was barely called him with AJ 407. It’s Jin now and then. His creator keep calling him ‘Jin’, and AJ couldn’t refuse the name since he knew…Kazuya will be happier if he called AJ using that name.
AJ knew his creator has a bond with him—a bond which himself couldn’t identify. He often to see images popped in his mind; it was the pictures of him and his creator, together. He never recognized when or where the images took place, and he knew it was happened earlier since his creator looked younger in those images. He didn’t know how or why the images flashed in his head, but something grows inside him with the time within.

Another weeks passed, and AJ accepted his creator’s behavior already. He recognized that he owned two names : AJ 407 and Jin. The first one is his given name, and the second one is the special nickname his creator gives him.
His creator seemed to be so happy with his reaction now.
Kazuya hugs him; tells him that he love him.

It was the same day when one of the staff asked him to take some files in Kazuya’s office. AJ nodded and confirmed the order, then he moved to his creator’s office. He walked to the shelf and took the files—and he saw something.
Photographs.
Photographs of his creator and… himself ?

The man is the pictures wasn’t me…
He was somebody else…
The photographs showed the images of two boys in they early teen, slowly grew up into two adults male. The man who looked like him, and Kazuya beside that man. In every pictures they looked happy; so lovey-dovey.
They shared a special relationship… and it hurts AJ.
His grip loosened, and the files scattered on the floor.
AJ was re-collecting the files when he noticed it. The files is the basic information of him. He read those files… and finally the puzzle is complete.

AJ 407 is the prototype from MEMORY project.
This project was created for people who lost their loved ones; since the android was made based on the appearances, behavior and memory from the real man.
In AJ 407’s case, he was built based on AKANISHI JIN—Professor Kamenashi Kazuya’s most valuable friend who died in an accident in order to save him…
